Before Cutting or Tailoring a Saree: Your Final Inspection

Complete your inspection and resolve questions before authorising a cut, stitch or finishing request.

Match the piece to the order

A saree inspection before tailoring helps keep your purchase and alteration decisions separate. Begin by matching the piece to the product reference, invoice and description you agreed. If you ordered remotely, keep the reference photos available while you check.

Confirm the colour description, design and any included blouse material. If something is not what you expected, raise the question before handing the saree to a tailor or requesting further work.

Inspect each section calmly

Ask to view the body, both borders, pallu and supplied blouse piece. Look at the front and reverse, and point out any marks, loose threads or areas you would like explained. Request a closer inspection rather than assuming a visible issue is either a defect or an acceptable craft feature.

Do not pull, trim or burn a thread to investigate it. Keep the piece in its supplied condition while a question is being resolved. Photographs of the exact area and the product reference make the conversation easier to follow.

Check the blouse plan with the tailor

Tell the tailor the style you want and ask them to confirm the material needed for your measurements. Do not assume that the supplied blouse piece suits every design. If you are adding another fabric, compare the actual materials before cutting.

Agree who will cut the blouse piece and where. Ask for any proposed changes to be explained first, especially when you are unsure which section is intended for the blouse. It is reasonable to pause until the plan is clear.

Read the conditions before authorising work

Review the current returns and exchanges policy and ask how cutting, stitching or finishing affects the purchase. Keep this clarification with your order. Avoid promising an exchange to someone receiving the saree as a gift unless the applicable conditions have been confirmed.

Ask whether the finishing you requested is included or separately charged, and confirm the expected completion date with the person doing the work. Do not rely on an assumed standard turnaround when an event date matters.

Give one clear approval

Once the inspection and questions are complete, record the agreed work, measurements where relevant, quotation and date. Ask for confirmation before additional changes. One clear instruction is easier to follow than several conflicting messages from different family members.

At Ramalingaa Silk House, discuss the selected piece and any finishing questions before purchase. If you need to clarify a remote order, contact the team with the product reference and photographs of the area concerned.

Questions shoppers ask

Should I remove labels before checking the saree?

Keep the piece and supplied labels in their original condition while you inspect and resolve questions.

Can visible irregularities always be dismissed as handloom features?

No blanket assumption is useful. Ask the seller to inspect and explain the specific area before deciding.
